Franciscans for Earth

Francis of Assisi saw the face of God present in the goodness of creation and heard the call to “go and repair.” Indeed, he saw himself as brother to even the smallest of creatures, recognizing the poor Christ present within each one.  Led by the Gospel, his relationship with creation drew him closer to God.

As Franciscan Sisters, we also relate to creation as sister and have the same mission to go and repair. Our purpose is to assist in fostering the shift of consciousness to relationships of interdependence that ensure a just, sustainable and vibrant earth community. In so doing, we seek to change the framework, from which humanity operates, and restore respect for a deep connectedness with earth.

Called by the Gospel to be a transforming presence in the world, we:

  • foster a deep relationship with creation, an understanding of current ecological crises, and the importance of environmental stewardship.
  • partner and collaborate with individuals and organizations in furthering earth-friendly initiatives.
  • stand in solidarity with earth and those exploited by unjust practices that disregard earth’s intrinsic value and support legislation that promotes a positive earth ethic and works towards practices that are just.
